Changes and A Near TPK

Image
Over the past week I had unexpected major issues with the changes to my character. He became a Blood Wizard during the last session and a change which I thought initially would be only challenging because I don’t usually play wizards became something that I couldn’t continue playing. As I explored the character more and came to grips with how I would need to play him – needing to cut himself to draw blood to activate many of his powers or spells. The more I thought about it, I realized that playing this character was bringing back some pretty nasty stuff that I had buried deep into the recesses of my mind. Incidents that occurred when I worked with some very troubled youths. I had to approach the DM and discuss that playing a Blood Wizard wasn’t something that I could do and explained my reasons. He said that he understood and we negotiated a character that still fit with the campaign.  So, it came to pass that the Raven Queen wasn’t happy that I had let Kanchelsis change me and made c

Becoming A Wizard and A Test

I learned a bit more about the changes that happened to my character at the end of last week’s session, so yes, I am now a 10th level Blood Wizard and a Dhampir and tonight was the first night I got to play this changed character. I have only played a wizard once in a one shot back in 1986, so it really isn’t something I'd choose on my own to play. I’ve looked at Dhampir a couple of times, but it didn't do much that I would use in my preferred martial classes. I’m enjoying the campaign and it’s a cool chance to play a style of character that I wouldn’t normally on my own. Remember these are my character's thoughts and memories, and are probably first draft at best quality writing. Yes, I have become a Dhampir and a wizard’s magic fills my head. I sort of remember things I used to know, but I now see things as a wizard might. I

Learning the Hard Way and Changes

Yep, tonight's session was interesting to say the least. Everything was going about how I expected it to and then during the last encounter our birdman summoned a blood god, which usually ain’t a good thing and it offered something. While I was intrigued by the offer, this was the first week of playing Theren and I was getting used to everything and rather liked the direction it was going. So, I told the DM if I roll a Natural 20, the character will take the offer. Yeah, then of course my character rolls a natural 20 and I have to accept the offer…which changed just about everything for my character. Now I have to figure out a new race and class, both of which are ones that I wouldn’t have chosen to play, but they are definitely different and challenging, so I’ll roll with what the character chose, not my own preferences. At the very least it will be interesting. The dice can be kind or cruel, I’m not sure what I think about the results of this Nat 20? I’ll still have fun figuring
