This is one of those session recap that had to be delayed due to player character casualties who typically write the journal entries. A lot has happened since the last recap and we’ve added a new player. So, I’ve had to fudge around the corners to get things so that they sound semi reasonable for someone to put into their journal.
Session Notes
To fill out the team. Yes, I’m definitely going to rejoin them and I think it will be good for all of us.
The Thri Kreen Diviner’s name is Ahna, who was quite interesting and gave me a card that I’ll talk more about later, we each got a card - that she believes has some clues to our Fate within them. Then there was the Kobold called Glub, who just joined them and was one of our strike team. He is one of those that does, thinks, then wonders at what happened. But he is usually good to have on our team, though you might have to hold him upside down by a leg once in a while to get your things back and slap him upside the head to remind him to leave your stuff alone.
Getting back to Manson and Pluck - I learned a lot about what they’ve been up to since I left the party. I offered my condolences about Renalla, Raven, and Terentus. Then I told them more about Ta’winn and Maxwell, the two from my team that didn’t make it out, but that I had gotten to know over the past few weeks while we trained together. I’ll talk about those two later. We all raised our cups to those no longer with us and sat for a moment thinking of those comrades and loved ones we had lost.
Then we celebrated our surviving for a while, swapping tales of our exploits during the battle. I got to talk at length with Manson and Pluck tonight, learning about their children and how both of their older children had been brought back to them. They mentioned a new airship, and how they were becoming an, “old married couple.”
Thinking back about the evening we spent together, I have to admit it was good to catch up with them and I even got introduced to a few of the new members of their group. Though we have to find one more person to really fill it out. It’s incredible they had been through so much in such a short time that it already seemed like they had been together for a lifetime.
Though I’ve been able to keep up with their exploits through Pierre’s sources and scrying abilities, the adventures and adversities since they left Inverness were new to me. After leaving Inverness, they told me they headed directly to the Myst Woods to accomplish one of the three they needed to kill to satisfy Manson’s obligation to Amanifus for resurrecting Raven.
The Myst Woods and The Briar
The Myst Woods as recounted to Collom by Pluck, Manson and Ahna
As the party entered the Myst Wood using Ahna’s directions, they heard a voice - warning them to, “Get Out of Here — LEAVE!” several times. They of course ignored it and continued towards the voice. While they do, they come across a set of ruins in the mist… an old town. According to Manson, Terentus said that it reminded him of a terrible memory. Manson had a bad feeling about this destroyed village as well, reminding him of his homeland. They heard the voice again, “I told you to leave…leave now! The Briar doesn’t want you here…”
Manson told me he said, “Not until Amanifus gets what he wants!”
The voice responds, “But is that what you really want?”
Manson, “What he wants is what I want.”
Then they noticed weird tree patterns and the ground vineworks moving back deeper into the town.
They told me they could see partially through some teenage apparition, held by a Shambling Mound, who is the source of the voice. “I can’t help if you attack, please leave”. Of course the party didn’t, and they battled “The Briar” over several encounters.
The Shambling Mound raises itself up and the ghostly teen shrinks down into the ground and the party was attacked by a Treant that Terentus eventually pounded into a pulp, a shambling mound that Manson teleported to another plane (I wonder what it’s new life will be and what kind of crap it will cause for wherever it was teleported to), an Elderwood Sage that kept attempting to heal the Treant, that finally Ahna finished off with a firebolt. Then Manson finished off the other Shambling Mound.
Manson recounted that “The Briar” swallowed him and inside of it, he saw the ghostly boy and attacked it, causing critical damage to the creature. Then the beast spit him out, and swallowed Raven who attacked the ghost as well, before spitting him out towards Terentus, barely missing him. The ghostly form suddenly appears outside the creature. Terentus was somehow able to grapple it, then pulled the undead away from “The Briar”, snapping the connection and killing it for good.
Terentus had kept the Treant’s heart and used the magically enhanced briarheart to become a Druid, something that most Garleans cannot do, but with the enhancement from those two hearts, he can now cast spells.
Terentus tells the party he can now hear the Voice of the Woods. He can speak with plants, telling them how it reminded him of a conversation that he and Kenzo had a while back. That he can truly hear for the first time.
Fu and Nora’s Last Words
Ahna tells me about the time she suddenly saw a vision of Fu and Nora’s last words after fighting Ava. How when she gets these visions she can remember them almost as if they are a part of her life.
Fu Hua and Nora stood there staring down Ava. Fu's blades were already manifesting themselves whilst Nora connected her viper staff and prepared for the fight to come...
Ava’s mechanical drider’s lower structure opened its knees, revealing turrets on and blades at the end of each leg. Her upper body’s back opened as well with six more arms stained in thick oil and poison peeling themselves out of the monster's back, each equipped with needle-like nails and visible tubes running through the forearms like veins.
Her eye sclera glowing a viscous neon purple. With pupils a toxic green hue… each claw dripping with the hateful concoctions that demanded a test subject. Her hair had become like thin black wires. Draped down her back with some connecting themselves to her lower body structure. Whilst she was connected to this via the hip, both Nora and Fu Hua knew she could detach herself. Her skin had become a dark purple due to the continuous exposure to new toxins.. she had come prepared to finish things with her and Fu.
This next fight was personal… this was to the death.
Nora curled her tail around her waist and activated her Dragoon trance alongside her Feroxian revelation. Tears welled in her eyes as she felt her father's life begin to flutter while he fought back the Star Scourge. He wasn't going to come out of that alive.. and if they didn't stop Ava... Kenzo was going to die as well, Ava was coming for those that had hurt her. The glow of her pink fur melded with the teal aura of her dragoon trance. The silhouette of what she inherited from her father. the heart of a dragon.
Fu Hua stood there, readying her internal cultivation stance as she wondered. Was their fate always to end this way? Feeling her body doing its best to absorb as much kinetic energy and psionic waves as she could from her horns.
She made the first bow for the initiation of combat.
One that Ava eagerly bowed back to.
Then began the first volley of shots...
After the battle had ended with them all gasping and dying last words were spoken.
"Do you think maybe next time.. we can try and be friends again? Fu... I love you.." - Nora's final words
"Mei (Ava) I never thought you were weak.. to be honest I always thought you were stronger than me or Kenzo… despite all that was against you, you still kept up with us. Sister I… I didn't and don't want to fight anymore. I'm sorry I couldn't save you then, but I'll try better… next time..
Nora.. I love you too..." - Fu's final words
"You're so stupid... System failing. Full internal shutdown is imminent. Power reserves reaching critical low. This can't be over just like that... I... I... I don't want it to end like this..." - Ava's final words
Guillermo’s Vision
Ahna told us about the second vision with Guillermo that she had almost immediately after the first one.
Guillermo sat back within his tower. Performing the finishing sigils before the final push. The "Foundling" was his personal brainchild, fifty years of his life spent for this one moment. She would change things for not just Tiberias, but for all of Ennidu. This was more important than "project Ygg", more important than any acquaintances he had acquired. More important than any son.. biological or otherwise.
The world needed war.
It needed conflict to grow and become more enveloped. Conflict breeds within it a stronger generation than the last. It hardens and emblazons compassion for the homeland. For the world that gave them everything.
Though Guillermo may not live to see the fruits of his labor come to ripen. But he knew it would be glorious. With the final sigil complete, Guillermo eagerly pushed the button. Every charged rune he had created and cultivated over the decades, every great rune he had left was drained of its energy and poured into the massive Vat ten feet from the Old human.
Some blood of every giant species on Ennidu swirled and mixed to create a ghastly brew. It was being heightened in power by the strongest of Guillermo's runic magic. He poured every reserve he could into the Chalice from his own spark. Everything he could afford for his darling, every drop of Mana. He fell like rain within the swirling mixture till he was left with but enough to keep his body intact and functional..
From this, Guillermo wept. "The future of our lands rests on the people to be capable, to grow and eventually be able to defeat you. They are not like those of the past. I pray that they don't disappoint you this time around. I'll guard the door to your chamber as you regain yourself. Until then, I shall hold my blade one final time, to ensure the future of my world"
Guillermo called for his most trusted guards. To ensure he'd have enough time to rest and recharge for the oncoming assaults. None shall enter the chamber of his life's work. Not while he still had a say in it.
A single name pops - Ymir she was one of the calamities with Versa (Dragon) and Ahna “knew” the name and that it took more than 25 high level heroes the last time to defeat her. Death is coming to Tiberias if she is released.
Ahna told me that she shared both visions with the others when they happened.
Preparations for Battle
Manson recounts that because of the visions, and what he knew as well, Terentus immediately contacted Kenzo and told him of what Ahna had “seen”. They could all tell that Kenzo was suffering from what had occurred in the first vision and was a little put out at being bothered by them in this time of pain. But when Ymir’s name was mentioned, all that went away and he yelled out that “Mom, we got a real problem – Ymir!” With that a portal suddenly opened and Isabella started questioning Ahna on what she had “seen”. She tells her of both visions.
With that information Isabella starts a flurry of instructions for others, sends out multiple message strands, and gets the party ready to head to Guillermo’s tower, where they will be the point of the spear against Guillermo. She put them into the time warp in Kalima where 20 minutes is eight hours. The party used this precious time to get a good rest before the war begins.
While in Kalima, the party sees Ester, and Raven was a bonehead and demanded to use her abilities to give them more power. She just shakes her head in dismay and a small boy steps out from behind her and Ester quietly goes into the hut. Raven apologizes profusely, and tried to explain, but the damage is done.
The party was able to get a long rest in the 20 minutes and returned to the Majini estate.
Manson sighs, looking thoughtful for a moment and tells me that he got a pair of Sending Stones for a favor from Isabella. That he wanted them so that he and Pluck could communicate with each other in times like this. Manson says, “Now I owe both Amanifus and Isabella, besides what I owe the Oni. Fantastic.”
Terentus and Kenzo
While they are preparing to leave, Ahna told us that she had a vision of when Terentus talked to Kenzo, but it was a private moment and not one that she would have told to anyone, if she thought Terentus would return.
She mentioned that
Terentus said, “Sometimes there isn’t a lot to say. We are headed off to attack Guillermo.” and Terentus gave something he druid crafted into a circlet to Kenzo saying, “I thought it might compliment your lotus.“
Kenzo takes it and looks at it for a moment. “Are you here to ask for my help?“
Terentus, “No, I’m here to ask for you to stay safe.“
He responds, “I can’t make promises but will do my best. Thank you. This all happened while I was protecting Manson’s kids.” as he taps on some coffins.
Terentus says in Druidic, “See you again soon.”
Kenzo answers in druidic “But not too soon.” Then he looks at Terentus in surprise. ”I didn’t know Garleans could become Druids.” and smiled a sad smile.
Before Kenzo could say any more Terentus said, “I didn’t know both of them, but they would take solace in knowing that you weren’t there because you were protecting future generations.”
Kenzo looked sadly at the coffins, “From what I gathered they were attempting to protect me as well. My father was critically injured…You have a mission to go to, I look forward to seeing you soon.” in druidic.
They spoke more, but Ahna by then had tears streaming down her face and needed to stop recalling the vision.
Ahna looked at us sadly, “I really don’t know if I should have shared that with you all.” but that is a side of Terentus that a lot of us never got to see and it was the side that I will miss. No, I’m not sorry that I showed you that, both Terentus and Kenzo deserved to be together, but now are separated.
Who Goes and Who Stays?
After getting their final instructions from Isabella and doing what needed to be done they got back on the ship. Manson looked at Pluck and said “I love you.” as he hands her the sending stone. She just nods.
They discussed that they had to figure out who goes and who stays. Who goes? Both Pluck and Renalla were supposed to stay. Though the children, the maids and Gaspar will stay at the Majini Mansion. Magnus talks quickly to Kenzo and laughs. He looked at the party and said that he is staying with the party to keep the hot one safe. The party chuckled a little at that and Ahna swore that Terentus might have even blushed.
We all chuckled at that around the table. Even Glub is behaving himself and listening raptly to the story that Manson, Pluck and Ahna are sharing with us.
Guillermo’s Tower
It didn’t take long for the airship to get them from the Majinni estate to Guillermo’s Tower, maybe an hour or so. When they got there Manson said that they could see the tower was covered in runes and that other airships were heading towards it as well, but none were shooting at it. He said they could see a bunch of figures on top of the tower attempting to break through the defenses. I just looked at Glub and we smiled, that was us.
Manson said that Raven then went to find Amanifus and they gathered everyone on the deck. Raven offered up his soul and to become one of Amanifus’ warlocks in the future if he can get us into the Tower at a safer place so that we can deal with Guillermo and stop Ymir from being released. Amanifus accepted his offer and opened a portal which Raven immediately stepped through, then Manson, Terentus, Ahna, Le Noi, Magnus, and finally Renalla went through the portal and no one dared to complain that she was coming with us.
Manson and Pluck looked at me sadly, and both almost said it in unison that it was her choice to make. Though I noticed that Pluck had tears streaming down her face and Manson was having a tough time though I saw more than a couple of streaks going down his cheek as well.
Inside the Tower
There the party met the Kobold we knew from the Playground (Glub got all excited, saying he knows that one as well) and talked him into giving us the key to use the lift and asked him to show us the secret way out, since he had to know of one. According to Manson, the Kobold needed a little persuading, but eventually showed them the secret exit, which later on saved a lot of our asses when we needed to get out of the tower in a hurry.
Ahna gave those two a break and continued the story. She claimed that no one felt too great about getting in that small iron box that was set to go a long way down into the catacombs, but that it was the fastest way to get to Guillermo. As they were going down they could hear creaking noises and the lights flicker, they stopped at the sixth floor and as they were scurrying out of that box, it began to lurch and as Magnus got off, the box suddenly plummeted down. If they had been in there another couple of seconds, they would have all been killed. Then they used various methods to fly down the open shaft to the seventh floor.
The Seventh Floor
Raven used the Horn of Valhalla to call up 14 berserkers and they helped diffuse several traps, until they got to the Sphere of Annihilation trap, which took out all of them.
Then while the others were discussing with Ahna how to get around the trap, Raven and Terentus moved forward to get a closer look. Raven climbed the side of the wall and moved towards the track of the sphere. Manson said he watched in horror as Raven fell off the wall and landed on the sphere. Then there was a loud explosion setting off the remainder of the traps and when they looked around there was no sign of either Raven or Terentus.
Ahna told us that Terentus was still alive in a city on Rusiarat - just a different plane. However, while Raven was transported to Rusiarat as well, where he arrived at was at the bottom of an ocean. With his wound, with no way to the surface, he had drowned. No, Amanifus didn’t save him, as we all expected him to. Sometimes bad things happen to good people. Terentus might be back someday, but Raven is now at peace with his Wisteria tree grove in Kalana, at the Mukade estate. Though he made it clear that he wants Guillermo’s head hanging from that tree above his marker.
We had to stop there for a few minutes while everyone took a badly needed piss call. When we settled back down, we ordered more drinks and they continued their tale.

Session Notes
Manson and Ahna continued on with the story they are telling.
Raven gone, Terentus Gone
Then suddenly - A little guy shows up, gives a cryptic message to Ahna, “By the way he is looking for you and he will find you - Bye.” She seemed to know what he was talking about, but didn’t say anything further.
Two fighters come flying through the door yelling they are from Pierre. One calls himself Ta’winn and the other Maxwell. The Shadar Kai yells out "What's the situation!" Manson said he looked at him and pointed towards the other end of the room towards the door, which was opening. "Whatever's coming through that door ain't gonna be good, so get ready."
Yeah, those are the two that Pierre selected and sent down to help Manson from our group. They were well respected and liked by the others in our group and had done well in the training.
Sydri the Fallen Attacks
Manson continues. Suddenly the traps are deactivating and Sydri the Fallen Celestial comes out of the door dressed in full plate armor - a godly glow to it, robe with golden sigils and a greatsword in his hand with runes engraved. He was pretty sure it was an Executioner's sword and beside him is a 14 foot tall sickly green monster with red crystals sticking out in various places. Manson said they had actually met him before. Riding an elevator together and at one point he saw this Celestial talking to Raven in the Playground while they were performing for the crowd, fighting in an arena.
Behind the door they saw Guillermo sitting, looking exhausted on steps and he was holding a ghost-like chain going to a collar around Sydri’s neck.
Sydri looked at Manson and told him, “I pray that I might not have to take a father from his children. If it happens, I promise you that I will make it quick. Will you do the same if the circumstances are reversed?” Manson said he responded that he would.
Guillermo yelled out, “Kill them all, he needs to go back to where he comes from!”
Sydri attacks Manson and almost kills him on the first hit and then the battle begins in earnest. The Piriarti attacks as well. Once recovered, Manson summons an Ixion that shoots out blue lightning (to the allies) and red lightning (to the enemies).
The Piriarti was able to use a reaction attack on those of the group who cast spells, which made it so that many didn’t want to cast spells because the damage it inflicted was high. Plus if a spell was cast at it, the spell was reflected back to the caster. It was looking pretty bad for the group at that point, but Magnus attacked and got two critical hits on Sydri and the Ixion was hurting both Sydri and Piriarti with its lightning.
Ymir Awakens
Then Manson discussed how the room was beginning to warp and how the party and their opponents stopped for a moment to see a set of runes coming down the wall and the wall opening up. Out stepped a 26 foot tall giant woman - Ymir stepping past Guillermo. They see Guillermo’s body burning in runes and she starts heading up the stairs away from their group.
Ymir is awake.
The party is under the spell of the Ixion and Ahna told us how she watched Maxwell using the increased speed to go attack Guillermo, assuming he was in a weakened state. Ta’winn followed as well with his bow, but missed three shots. Turns out Guillermo is not only not weakened, but charged with intense runic power.
Things were looking dire for the party.
Then Manson unleashed a flurry of blows on Syndri, causing critical damage to the Celestial. Syndri drops to their knees from the blows, gasping. Manson, staying true to his word, swiftly decapitated the imprisoned being. There was no reason to drag this pain out further.
Magnus shot the Piriarti in the head with his gun breaker ability, killing it as well.
At the same time Ahna, tells us that Maxwell with his incredible speed got ahead of Ymir on the stairs, hollers for everyone to get back, and casts Shatter on the stone staircase. It worked, and caused Ymir and Guillermo, to be buried under the avalanche that Maxwell started. She saw Ta’winn attempt to fly out, but was crushed by the falling stones, and Maxwell himself was buried under tons of rock within the adjacent room.
I remark that was when we heard the loud scream and it sounded like an explosion up where we were.
Then Manson told us that he looked quickly at what happened. To his and everyone else’s horror, Ymir begins to dig her way out of the rubble and she looks squarely at them as she is getting up. The party is in a full panic, this is a god staring them down. There wasn’t a sliver of a chance that this fight could happen for them. They have to flee, and fast. Ahna yells to the group that we have to fly back up the shaft we came down in. However, even though she has her own wings, she can only cast the fly spell on three people. There were four others around Ahna. Someone is going to be left behind…
Before anyone can do anything else, Renalla runs toward Ymir, casting Eldritch Blast after Eldritch Blast yelling at the rest to get out there. Manson starts to go after her, his wife… In an instant, Magnus grabs him, hauling him towards the exit yelling, “She made her choice! We have to run or we will never leave here alive!” Meeting up with Ahna, she casts the fly spell on them. They head up the shaft and as soon as they make it past the door, stalagmites come slamming into the shaft. They knew that Renalla was dead.
Manson just shook his head and tears were streaming down his face as he told this part about Renalla. I could see the tears on Pluck’s face as well. Ahna didn’t look much better. Glub and I just bowed our heads out of respect for their and our fallen comrades. The table was silent for a few minutes.
Getting Out of the Tower
Then Manson continues the story and says they made it to the top where he saw a bunch of powerful people standing around. These were the adventurers that had made it down this far. He was yelling to them that Ymir was loose and to get to hell out of here. He didn’t even realize it was Pierre and I standing there, that’s where he led us out by way of the Kobold’s escape tunnel and we made our way to freedom.
Once outside, we start to see the whole building opening up and forming into a flower shape. We could see airships coming towards the tower with reinforcements against Ymir. They didn’t stand a chance.
I watched as Manson used a sending stone and an airship swooped in to pick him and several other survivors up including Glub. Pierre grabbed my shoulder and told me and a couple others to follow him. Then when we were a ways away from the tower, he stopped and teleported us to the Nestav estate.
Breaking the News
Manson describes that he had to break the news to Pluck, of how Renalla died saving the rest of them. They cried in each other's arms for a time, while the ship was on course for the Nestav estate.
The Nestav Estate
Once there, they parked the ship and their group headed inside. He mentioned as they were passing by the dance floor, Glub broke off from the group. Manson thought this was fine, he didn’t even know the guy. But he and Ahna had to quickly stop when they noticed that Glub was about to pick someone’s pockets in clear sight. Ahna trying to tame the beast, she casts a spell to cause Glub to go blind temporarily. He starts freaking out, and the person he accidentally bumps into turns around, intrigued by the little Kobold. He picks Glub up in his hands and dances together. At this point Kobold is going berserk, looking like a rabid raccoon losing his shit at a club. The random person disappointingly sets Glub down, seeing he was stressed and didn’t want to dance. The little bastard scurries back to the group, clinging to Manson's upper back. While slightly irritated, Manson claimed he let him stay there. Better to keep the little shit close.
They make it to Gallahan’s chambers. Greetings were made, conversations were had. Gallahan seemed like an important person, so for the party it was good for them to build relations with him. While doing so, Glub breaks away… again… Running over to the dark elf lady with a scorpion tail making drinks at the bar. He tries to jump up and grab her tail, and suddenly her stinger is at his throat. Manson doesn’t quite remember what they said, but was relieved she didn’t kill the rascal, even if he might deserve it. Gallahan offers the group to stay at his estate where he assures them that they will be safe. Some of the group agrees to stay there, some go back to their ship.
This is where Manson, Ahna, and others meet up with me. These stories were told, and here we are.
While we were in there Ahna passed each of us card and saved one for the other member who will be joining us.
Collom - Empty Throne
Padawan - The Beating
Glub - The Juggler
Pluck - The Uprising
Manson - No card
Ahna - No card
Len Noi - The Big Sky
A Little More About Ta’winn
As we talked more that night, I remembered something about Ta'winn that I thought that I should share with the others. “You know that Shadar Kai archer that died when Maxwell brought down the other room on Ymir. Well, his last name was Darkwalker. When he came to see Pierre for information about Tanwaylin Darkwalker, his sister the first time we saw him. I remember Pierre saying that he thought that Raven had told him that was his mother’s name. He was going to ask Raven about it the next time he saw him…We lost them both within minutes of each other. Kinda sad really, they came so close to finally meeting and now they will never meet. Raven is in Kalana’s spirit realm and Ta’winn is with the Raven Queen. Yeah, rather sad and I hoisted my drink to salute the two of them, the others did as well.
Pluck Remembering Renalla
Pluck sat back a moment with the cigar in one hand and a bottle of alcohol in the other.
She had no intention of drinking it for herself, rather have it as a memorial gift. Letting the others choose their place to rest for the evening. She couldn't help but find herself on the deck of her ship once more.
This was a good deal at the estate for her, an honest life. Honest earnings in a position she was doubtful to be replaced. The deed was done and her family was finally free, but.... Renalla kept haunting her mind.
She had tried to brave a calm face since the start of this endeavor but now that they had some time to breathe.. She found it hard to suck in a single breath. She knew what was happening again. This time it was truly permanent.
How was she going to explain this to Rose? to Cassia?
It was then she felt the silhouette of a hand gently wrap itself around her shoulder, a hand she knew intimately since they had split from being within the same body. Whilst Manson was away, Renalla had made sure Pluck was… well tended too and vice versa. Pluck never thought she'd have been in a marriage of sorts like that but the three were making it work and be happy....
That soft but firm hand gently coaxed her into tears. Renalla was there but... not.. and Amanifus would not make the deal a second time. Renalla was once more bound to Pluck. Gifted cruelly with her lover's voice and the only way to guarantee her a more physical form was through the Shiranui ritual.
"I promise as soon as I can we will have a long good drink… till then, know that I love you just as I do him.. I promise you I'll do my damnedest for them all. Hells, maybe when the three of us go we can meet up on that other side.
I know your watching over us."
Pluck lit the cigar and uncorked the bottle. Letting it pour down the side of the ship.
"....First big purchase I'm getting a decal for you and the others we lost... whatever you think fits them best.. Till then…"
Pluck begins to sing...
